Helen L. Long, PhD, CCC-SLP is an Assistant Professor in the Communication Sciences Program in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. She is a certified speech-language pathologist through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Dr. Long directs the Communication and Speech Emergence (CaSE) Laboratory which focuses on the early identification and intervention of speech and communication abilities and needs in young children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, especially those with motor conditions like cerebral palsy, a common motor disability. Her work aims to 1) improve clinician’s ability to identify communication needs early, 2) support the development of targeted early communication interventions for children with reduced mobility, and 3) support access to communication tools like augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). She works closely with families, educators, people with disabilities, and community teams to make sure this research translates into real-world support.
