A new publication of research from Professor Lauren Calandruccio’s Speech and Auditory Research lab describing the development and validation of the BabyBEL sentence corpus for use with children ages 5+. Emily Buss (The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) and Lori Leibold (Center for Hearing Research, Boys Town National Research Hospital) were collaborators on this project.

This work builds on the original BEL corpus that Rajka Smiljanić and Lauren Calandruccio developed in 2012, with modifications specifically designed to support pediatric speech-recognition research and clinical testing. BabyBEL extends this work by providing developmentally appropriate sentence materials for young listeners.

All sentence text and recordings are freely available through the OSF repository for research use.
