Helen Long brings a lifetime desire to help children to CWRU

Helen Long grew up wanting to help children hear and to be heard … and she’s doing just that.

Long, an assistant professor in the communication sciences program of the Department of Psychological Sciences, has known since the age of five that she wanted to be a speech-language pathologist (SLP). Achieving that, she set out to pursue a research career focused around early pre-speech and early speech development to build an evidence base that will allow clinicians to feel more confident about early diagnosis and intervention planning for children with disabilities—particularly cerebral palsy.

Joining CWRU from University of Wisconsin-Madison where she was a postdoctoral fellow, Long is excited to build research and Cleveland community connections to work together to enhance the lives of these children.
